Round 5 Results and Leaderboard

I thought I’d start this week having a look at my current leader board, it’s no surprise we have a nice clear leader after round 5 in Lachie Neale.  I have him 4 votes clear of fast rising star Matthew Rowell who had an unfortunate shoulder injury in the early moments of Suns vs Cats game which put a dampener on the whole weekend’s games for me (but at least West Coast got a badly needed win).  It’s quite hard to find any value when you have an outright leader who is also the favourite with the bookies, and rightly so.  I’ve had a look at my top 9 below along with current betting markets. Lachie Neale (13)    $3 Matthew Rowell (9)  odds currently removed from markets Travis Boak (8)         $15 Jack Billings (8)        $41 Chad Wingard (7)    $81 Max Gawn (7)           $34 Harry Perryman (7)  no market Brodie Grundy (6)    $16 Dylan Shiel (6)         $26 Find the latest Brownlow odds here As we can see, Neale’s odds has firmed right up polling in every round so far, and currently the medal is his to lose so $3 is great value in an already uncertain season.  Injuries to Fyfe and Rowell have also contributed to those firmed odds.  Fyfe we know doesn’t need to play an entire season to win the medal as he has done so in the past, so if you think Freo can get some win’s on the board when they return to the WA hub then $17 is unheard of value for Fyfe and is he’s only going to miss 1-2 weeks then I’m tempted to put a value bet on that.  I threw a sneaky value bet on Wingard a week and a bit ago at $251 and I like seeing his odds drop to $81, a couple more good games from him may give me an opportunity to cash that one out.  Another interesting market is Bontempelli in the top 5 bookie favourites at $13, I only have him polling as a BOG last week, other than that, the opposition teams have shut him down.  I’ll be looking closely at the West Coast markets leading up to the WA hub as we have to assume they will gain the advantage back at home, Kelly and Gaff at $67, Yeo at $81 and Shuey at $101 interest me so I’ll be watching those.  I have Perryman with 7 votes, however there is no market for him at all, I’ll admit, he is a guy that is relatively unknown to the media and considering GWS have a lot of talented players it doesn’t surprise me that he has gone under the radar, it will be interesting to see what happens going forward, if he has a another very good game I’ll be requesting some odds for him. Let’s move onto the round 5 vote getters… Blues vs Saints 3          Jack Steele 2          Rowan Marshall 1          Jack Billings Pies vs Bombers 3          Dylan Shiel 2          Jake Stringer 1          Adam Treloar Eagles vs Swans 3          Dom Sheed 2          Oscar Allen 1          Nic Naitanui Cats vs Suns            3          Mitch Duncan 2          Tom Hawkins 1          Joel Selwood Lions vs Power 3          Jarrod Lyons 2          Lachie Neale 1          Hugh McGluggage Dogs vs Roos 3          Josh Bruce 2          Tim English 1          Todd Goldstein Crows vs Dockers 3          Andrew Brayshaw 2          David Mundy 1          Michael Walters Demons vs Tigers 3          Kane Lambert 2          Max Gawn 1          Jack Higgins Giants vs Hawks 3          Harry Perryman 2          Josh Kelly 1          Nick Haynes
