2021 Round 9 Results

Round 9 is complete and I’ve finally got someone who’s broken away from the pack. No surprise it’s from one of the in form teams in the competition, the Melbourne Demons. Clayton Oliver takes the lead this week with another 3 vote game through my eyes and is still sitting at very nice odds. It’s still close at the top, so plenty of value can still be found, all the latest odds can be viewed here. St Kilda vs Geelong Saints really shot themselves in the foot here with their abysmal kicking in front of goal. You can’t do that against a team like Geelong, and it feels like another year of the same old from St Kilda. A few Geelong players are taking the vote load from Dangerfield while he’s out with Guthrie coming into his own late last season and not missing a beat in 2021, and Duncan has been his ball magnet self since returning to the side a few weeks ago. 3 C. Guthrie 2 M. Duncan 1 Z. Tuohy Sydney vs Collingwood Collingwood looked like they were going to continue their winning ways in Sydney in the early stages of the match, but Sydney pulled together and got the job done. Heeney coming back into the player we’ve always suspected. 3 I. Heeney 2 C. Mills 1 J. McInerney Hawthorn vs North Hawks losing in Tassie, and North getting a win...two statement’s not heard very often. North had been threatening to get a win for a few weeks now, enjoy Roo’s fans. 3 J. Simpkin 2 B. Cunnington 1 B. Hardwick Gold Coast vs Brisbane Suns were unsighted in this one for the first 3 quarters, and then it was too little too late when the Lions had put the que in the rack. I jumped on Lyons prior to round 9 starting at odds of $101 and have him sewing up the 3 votes here. 3 J. Lyons 2 H. McCluggage 1 D. Zorko Richmond vs GWS GWS held the lead for the majority of this game, but in the last few years it’s rare to see the TIgers lose 2 games in a row so you knew this wouldn’t be over till the final siren sounded. Tigers eventually getting the job done, with Dusty back to his best. 3 D. Martin 2 J. Hopper 1 L. Baker Port vs Western I tipped wrong here, it’s not often a good Port side loses at home, but the Dogs continue their close to perfect season so far as the next in form after Melbourne. Bontmepelli taking the 3 in this game. 3 M. Bontempelli 2 J. Macrae 1 O. Wines Essendon vs Fremantle As an Eagles supporter I even thought Freo were robbed in this one. 99/100 times that mark by Lobb in front of goal is paid. It reminded me of bad decisions in the UFC and the commentators always say, ‘don’t leave the decision in the judges hands’, Freo left this one in the umpire's hands. Parish continues to thrive in the middle since Shiel got injured. 3 D. Parish 2 N. Hind 1 A. Brayshaw Melbourne vs Carlton Carlton showed some promise again in this game, but still fell short albeit to the top team in the competition. SB have already paid out bets on Melbourne winning the flag a few weeks ago, someone at SB must dislike the Demons because I’ve never seen a bigger jinx in my life! One of my dark horses for the medal in Oliver takes the biccies here. 3 C. Oliver 2 M. Gawn 1 T. McDonald West Coast vs Adelaide I was at this game and it was looking like it was going to be an arm wrestle for most of the game, until Darling went beastmode in the 2nd quarter taking some ridiculously strong marks and kicking true each time. I’m not sure what he was thinking when he aimed a dribble kick off a set shot directly at a Crows player, but fantastically it rolled straight between his legs and through the posts. On a side note, my wife had a bet on Waterman to kick the first goal and I had Allen first goal as the last leg of a multi. It was pretty funny when Waterman’s shot on goal went across the face into Allen’s hands to seal up my last leg! 3 J. Darling 2 T. Kelly 1 A. Gaff
